On Friday 19th March, Whitehaven Tourist Information Centre are holding an all day event, Celebrating Copeland.  Throughout the day, the centre will play host to local producers including Mawsons of Bailey Ground, Seascale, Woodalls of Waberthwaite and Hartley's Ice cream of Egremont, who will all have stalls at the centre.  Local poet Janice M Robinson, featured in the current Whitehaven Guide's Poetry Corner, will be showcasing her work which celebrates the heritage and culture of the Copeland area.

The highlight of the event is the "Celebrate Copeland - Prize Draw" with a host of wonderful prizes on offer donated from businesses throughout the borough of Copeland.

The prize draw will take place at 12:45 on Friday 19th March with Copeland's MP Jamie Reed.

Working with The Beacon, Whitehaven Tourist Information Centre have also organised a special Whitehaven Town Trail, exploring the Copeland town's amazing history, beginning at 1.30pm on 19th March.  Places are limited and can be booked by calling The Beacon on 01946 592302. Places must be booked before midday on 19th March and are being offered at the special price of just £3.50 per person.

Refreshments will be available at the Tourist Information Centre throughout the day.

On Saturday 20th March, The Beacon will be celebrating the return of a ship model, Henry Lowther to the museum.  The ship model has been carefully conserved over a 20 year period and is now on display in The Beacon Gallery on the 2nd floor of the museum. At 2pm on 20th March, we are inviting members of the public to join us as we mark the ship's welcome return back into the museum.  Copelands Mayor, Cllr Henry Wormstrup and Cllr Hugh Branney will be in attendance to help us officially launch the ship in style with a bottle of bubbly. It's a great photo opportunity that we hope that you can attend. For more information about this event please contact Claire Winter-Moore or Charlotte Stead at The Beacon 01946 592302.
